Residents at BSNL apartments suffered power outage on Thursday due to power leakage caused by rains and alleged that there has been no proper maintenance of street lights in the area.
Valparai: Residents of the Valparai BSNL apartments suffered owing to power outages in the area due to power leakage.
Rains in Valparai have caused power leakage and a subsequent power outage at the BSNL apartment on Thursday. The power lines reportedly caught fire causing smoke to engulf the entire residence. Residents fled from their houses in fear.
The fire brigade and the Electricity Department rushed to the spot to put out the fire. Out of the 12 houses in the apartment, six houses in Block A suffered a power cut. Residents alleged that the poor maintenance of street lights and power lines since the apartment was constructed in 1996.
The dense bushes around the area have also reportedly become a hiding place for leopards which has been a rising concern for residents who have appealed to the concerned department to take appropriate action to get rid of the bushes and to look into their other concerns.
