Water level spikes by two-feet at Thirumoorthy dam due to rain

The water level in the Thirumoorthy dam increased by two feet as a result of heavy rainfall in the Western Ghat region, which has subsequently increased the inflow in Palar River.



Tirupur: Heavy rains in the Western Ghats have increased the water level in Thirumoorthy dam by 2 feet. The rains have also caused floods in the Palar River.

Due to heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats, inflow in Thirumoorthy Dam has increased. There has been a subsequent flood in the Palar River, due to the rains in Thirumoorthy hills and water flow through the Contour Canal.



Despite opening the dam water for irrigational purposes, the water level has gone up by two feet in the dam. The water level was at 51.61 feet on the 2nd out of a total of 60 feet. The water levels have gone up to 53.15 ft. as of last morning the water storage was 1,540.95 million cusecs. The dam received a total of 1,106 cubic feet of water, 367 cubic feet of water per second through Palar, and 739 cusecs through the Contour Canal.

On the whole, 976 cusecs of water were discharged from the dam viz., 546 cusecs through the main canal, 102 cusecs through the Udumal canal, 4 cusecs through the high-level canal, 21 cusecs drinking water.

Thirumoorthy Dam recorded 14 mm rainfall and Nallar dam recorded 20 mm rainfall.
