The three men confessed to taking the dead elephant's tusks and hiding it in the bushes.
Coimbatore: Police have arrested and jailed three men for stealing dead elephant's tusks, near Coimbatore. The bones of a dead elephant were found in the Coimbatore Boluvampatti Wildlife Sanctuary's Javkadu forest. Five special teams headed by the District Forest Officer investigated and confirmed that two tusks had been removed from the body of the 30-year old elephant.

In the same area, tusks hidden inside bushes were recovered and Maruthupandi (27), Raman (50) and Chinnan (50) of Thanikandi village were arrested in connection with the robbery. The men confessed that when they had gone into the forest to pick up bamboo shoots, they confessed to stealing the dead elephant's tusks and hiding it. All three were produced in court and lodged at Bhavani Sagar Jail.
