Tamil Nadu students will benefit from opening of more medical colleges, Educationalist Jayaprakash Gandhi

In Tamil Nadu last year, there were 2,747 medical seats. With the opening of new medical colleges this year, there will be a total of 4,100 medical seats. Thus, Tamil Nadu students will be the biggest beneficiaries. The 'cut off' points for medical seats will be reduced by three to five points.

Coimbatore: Educator Jayaprakash Gandhi has said that Tamil Nadu students will benefit more as more medical colleges are to be opened in Tamil Nadu. Academicians said that Tamil Nadu students will benefit as additional medical colleges will reduce the 'cut off' score. The results of The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), for admission to MBBS were released a few days ago. Counselling for admission to medical courses will begin soon.

In addition, 11 medical colleges have been started in Tamil Nadu, which is a great boon for students, academics said.

Educationalist Jayaprakash Gandhi said, the number of candidates who get high marks in NEET is constantly increasing. Last year, only 85 students scored 700 - 720. But, this year the number has spiked to 197 aspirants.

The cut-off for NEET is also declining. The reason for this is the opening of additional medical colleges. In Tamil Nadu last year, there were 2,747 medical seats. With the opening of new medical colleges this year, there will be a total of 4,100 medical seats. Thus, Tamil Nadu students will be the biggest beneficiaries. The cut off'-for points for medical seats will be reduced by three to five points.
