Doctors said Chief Minister Stalin must intervene and find an immediate solution. Public Welfare Minister Subramaniam said, "The salaries of health inspectors and medical personnel who were not paid have been paid."
Coimbatore: In Tamil Nadu, doctors employed at the 'Amma Mini Clinic' are suffering from non-payment for two months. Just as the government abandoned the Amma Mini Clinic, they have abandoned the doctors too.
After the second wave of coronavirus in Tamil Nadu, the government intensified preventive measures. In the last AIADMK regime, mini-clinics were started at 2,000 places in the state and medical treatment was provided in the morning and evening.
For the initiative, 1,900 doctors, 2,000 nurses and paramedics were hired on a contract basis. Rs. 60,000 was given per month to doctors and travel expense of 400 rupees was provided.
After the new regime took charge, they converted the buildings where the mini clinic operated, into vaccination or testing centers and some places were closed. More than 500 employees resigned. Currently, more than 1,000 people are employed in vaccination, primary health care, and the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme. For more than 1,000 people who continue to work, the government has not paid them remuneration for two months.
Regarding this, a doctor of Amma Mini Clinic said “When ADMK was in power they hired workforce for the Amma Mini Clinic. Then, after the DMK took over the government, the mini clinic was closed. Also, many of those who worked were transferred to different locations.” one of the doctors said.
“Many who could not go to new places where they were relocated, they quit their jobs. Employees continued to work without even a holiday. Doctors, health inspectors and paramedics who continue to work in the current environment have not been paid for two months. DMK has not paid the doctors since it took over. In particular, many working in districts including Thanjavur, Vellore, Karur, Madurai and Thiruvarur are suffering from non-payment and no leave,” the doctor said.
This leaves the workforce disappointed as they are unable to celebrate the festival. Thus, they echoed the sentiments that Chief Minister M K Stalin must intervene and find an immediate solution.
Public Welfare Minister Ma Subramaniam said, "The salaries of health inspectors and medical personnel who were not paid have been paid. Currently, I am in consultation with the authorities regarding the payment of salaries to doctors. Due to some administrative reasons, there was a delay in the payment of salaries. In consultation with the officers, they will be paid within a day or two."
