Lighting up the lives of children and families affected by HIV, Shanti Ashram celebrates the festival of lights. The 2021 edition of the celebrations was christened ‘Deepasudar’.
Coimbatore: Shanti Ashram celebrates the festival of lights Diwali. For the last 13 years, the organization has been celebrating this festival with families and their children affected by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). This year 30 families celebrated Diwali at the ashram. The 2021 edition of the celebrations was christened ‘Deepasudar’.
Children entertained the guests with song and dance. A medical check-up was organised for the participants. Sweets, new clothes and crackers were distributed to the children. Nutritious food items were distributed to the children.
Spiritual heads and leaders from various religions offered prayers for the well being of the children and their families and also prayed for world peace. The ashram organised an ‘Interfaith Prayer’ as part of their celebrations.
Thangakalli and Kousalya delivered the inaugural address. Vijayarangan Gopal, head of the Youth Leadership Programme, spoke on the importance of support groups and mental well-being. Chandra Prabha, Punitha Deivanayagam and Abdul Hakkim, PR Secretary of Jamaat-E-Hind delivered their address.
