Passengers delighted at increase in flight operations to Delhi and Kolkata.
Coimbatore: After a long lull, the daily flight operations at Coimbatore International Airport which has been increased to 26 for the month of November has given passengers reason to rejoice.
Post the 'Covid-19' pandemic outbreak, during both the first and second Covid waves, flight operations at Coimbatore International Airport had been severely hit. While before the pandemic outbreak, on an average 33 to 36 flights were operated, post-pandemic outbreak, the number of flights being operated drastically reduced. During the month of May, only five flights were operated, every day. After July this year, when things started to slowly limp back to normal, both flights and passenger movement continued to increase steadily.
For the month of November, daily flight operations has been increased to 26.
Commenting on the increase, the Coimbatore International Airport Director, S Senthil Valavan said, "This month, the daily flight operations has been increased to 26 which includes 25 in the domestic sector and 1 in the international sector. The flight movements will further increase during next month December (Goa, Tirupati) and January (Pune)."
Kongu Global Forum (KGF) Director, D Nanda Kumar stated, "We wholeheartedly welcome the efforts taken by the airlines and airport management in increasing the flight operations at Coimbatore International Airport. Increase of flight services to Delhi and service to Kolkata are welcomed by passengers. More services are to be added during December and January which will help passengers in a big way. On the other side, the State Government has also speeded up the land acquisition process. We hope that the Coimbatore International Airport would look perfect with the expansion works completed in 2023 and will host more domestic and international flight connectivity to various destinations."
