Coimbatore: A 25-year old youth who had thrown a large stone on a mentally-ill woman in a fit of rage in 2016, near Coimbatore over a petty quarrel has been sentenced by the Court to three years in prison along with a fine of Rs.3000.
Amritham (58) who is mentally-ill is the younger sister of Palanisamy's wife. Though Palanisamy shelters Amritham in his house and takes care of her, Dinesh Kumar (25), the son of Palanisamy's younger brother had been in the habit of harassing Amritham for money. On June 3, 2016, when Dinesh Kumar was fetching coconuts from the garden, Amritham had stopped him. In a fit of rage, Dinesh Kumar pushed Amritham down, took a nearby stone and hit her on the head.
Palanisamy had lodged a complaint at the Madukkarai police station and based on the complaint filed, Madukkarai Police Inspector Sivakumar filed a case and arrested Dinesh Kumar, the accused in the case and remanded him in custody. Following a hearing in the Coimbatore Second Additional Sessions Court, the judge sentenced Dinesh Kumar to 3 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs.3,000.
The Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, S Selvanagarathinam commended the Chief Inspector of the Court, Karthikeyan for the excellent investigation and presentation of witnesses in the court.
