Coimbatore: Farmers and the general public protested against the setting up of a fireworks shop near R S Puram's Uzhavar Sandhai.
The Uzhavar Sandhai in R S Puram is located in the heart of the city and frequented by large crowds of people. On an average, more than 150 farmers and over 3,000 customers visit the Uzhavar Sandhai. Recently, a fireworks shop has been set up nearby which has caused both traders and regular customers to be wary. Farmers allege that the fireworks shop has been set up with political influence near the licensed Uzhavar Sandhai to attract customers. As it is a place where thousands of people come and go every day, there is a fear of accidents.
