Karumbukkadai residents submit petition to Minister Senthil Balaji urging that basic amenities are provided

There are three private schools and one government primary school in the area. Many businesses are operating here in the region. However, the following basic and development facilities in the area have been made known to the district administration several times and to date no facilities have been completed in the area.

Coimbatore: The petition was submitted to the Ministry of Electricity, Prohibition and Excise Senthil Balaji urging that the people of the Karumbukkadai area are provided with basic needs.

The petition read “Karumbukkadai and its environs have a population of over one thousand. There are three private schools and one government primary school in the area. Many businesses are operating here in the region. However, the following basic and development facilities in the area have been made known to the district administration several times and to date no facilities have been completed in the area.

1. There is no proper banking facility in the region. The closest bank is located at Townhall, Kuniamuthur or Podanur. Petitions have been filed on behalf of the public for the last 10 years to start a bank branch. Banks are reluctant to set up their branch despite being provided with the physical infrastructure, like building.

2. Only one government primary school is functioning in the area. The school has only facilities for 90 students. Since students in this area are mostly from economically ordinary families, they have to go to private schools for higher education or to government high and secondary schools in distant areas. Therefore, the primary school operating in the area should be upgraded to a secondary school or a new high school should be built on government land near Ukkadam.

3. Thousands of students from the region go to school and college every day. There is no library of its kind in the region to help students develop their knowledge. A library should be set up to help enhance the knowledge and development of the future generation of the country.

4. There are no entertainment facilities for children and women in the area. Therefore, a park facility and a playground for children should be set up in the area.

5. A primary health center and a maternity center should be set up in the area.

6. Thousands of students from Madukkarai, Kuniyamuthur, Podanur, Karumbukkadai areas go to school and college every day. Bus facilities for them are very limited. Additional buses and minibuses should be operated in the morning and evening to reduce the crisis.

7. Karumbukkadai Saramedu Road has major traffic crisis. We need to eliminate the occupation in the region and reduce the crisis. In order to help the people living in the area, minibuses, share autos should be run from Karumbukkadai to Nanjundapuram.

8. Basic facilities including drinking water, road and sewerage facilities in Karumbukkadai and Podanur NP Itteri areas have not been properly maintained. In addition, there are very few health workers in the area who are involved in garbage disposal, which contributes to the stagnation of garbage and the spread of health problems.

9. Since there is no government college for women in Coimbatore, the higher education of Muslim women is restricted. The government should start a women's arts college and a teacher training college to help Muslim women pursue higher education.

10. Rooms should be arranged for Muslims to perform prayers in government and private institutions and educational institutions.

11. Scholarships are not regularly available to Muslim students. We request you to document the availability of scholarships systematically and easily. Further, bank loan procedures for education should be simplified.

12. Bank loans are not available to Muslim small business owners. Bank loans are being watered down by stigmatizing the region. We need to change this situation. Avoid harassing all the people of an area because of the mistake that some people make,” the petition read.
