The city police have arrested two men who demanded usury interest and threatened women with murder threats.
Coimbatore: The Thondamuthur Police in Coimbatore arrested two men for threatening women demanding usury interest.
Gunasundari,(42), and Tamilselvi, (40) are friends and run a tailor’s shop near a government school in Thondamuthur. The duo received loans from Anandhan, (42), and Saravanamurthy, (40), during the pandemic and were unable to pay the interests on the loans due to low income.
Anandan and Saravanamurthy run a tire shop in the same area. Anandan and Saravanamurthy troubled Gunasundari and Tamilselvi demanding interests for the loan. At a stage, Anandan, Saravanamoorthy, and Anandan’s wife Mallika visited Gunasundari and Tamilselvi’s house demanding usury interest and threatened them with murder using abusive language. Gunasundari and Tamilselvi submitted a petition to the District Collector during the grievance meeting held on Sunday.
The Collector directed the Superintendent of Police to carry out an investigation and take appropriate action. The Thondamuthur police during the investigation confirmed the allegations on Saravanamurthy, Mallika, and Anandan. The police registered a case against Anandan, his wife Mallika, and Saravanamurthy for issuing death threat, prevention of violence against women. Anandan and Saravanamurthy were arrested.
