Dr. A. Nirmala, Dean, Government Hospital stated that 199 patients diagnosed with black fungi underwent Retrobulbar treatment in order to avoid loss of vision.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Government Hospital Dean, Dr. A. Nirmala stated that 199 people have received the Retrobulbar treatment.
Patients with low resistance, those recovered from Covid19, especially persons who are diabetic are diagnosed with Mucormycosis or the Black Fungus. The tissue rot caused as an effect of the disease is surgically removed. As many as 199 people have been treated with Retrobulbar, a treatment for black fungus.
Dean, Dr. Nirmala, Government Hospital stated, “416 cases of black fungus have been treated at Coimbatore government hospital to date. 14 are undergoing treatments at present. Out of these, the fungal infection has reached the brain of 8 and they underwent surgery. Similarly, 9 patients who had rotten tissues in the cheek, also underwent surgery for removal of the tissue. The Retrobulbar treatment is given to those with severe injuries to avoid loss of sight. 199 people have been treated for retrobulbar at Coimbatore Government Hospital."
