Coimbatore: Coimbatore Student Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest in front of the railway station in support of students who committed suicide due to fear of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), and demanded immediate arrest of the Governor and Prime Minister who allowed NEET.
The protestors stated that as many as twenty three students have committed suicide in Tamil Nadu fearing the NEET. They demanded that immediate action should be taken regarding the suicide of a student named Keerthi Swaran two days ago fearing the NEET.
Coimbatore District SFI staged a protest in front of the railway station. The agitation was sparked by a sudden roadblock chanting slogans against the Prime Minister of India and the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Following this police negotiated with the student union involved in the protest. The road block caused traffic congestion in the area for some time. The police arrested more than 30 students who protested in front of the railway station.
