Starting this February, 1,236 stray dogs have been sterilized in the city and 145 have been sterilized in the month of October alone.
Coimbatore: 1,236 stray dogs have been sterilized in Coimbatore Corporation.
A long-time demand was made by the public that the sterilization center for stray dogs constructed near Ondipudur sewage treatment plant be brought into use. The Ondipudur Stray Dog Sterilization Centre has been established in October 2021.
So far, 145 stray dogs have been sterilized in October. In addition, 101 stray dogs in February, 154 in March, 140 in April, 146 in May, 144 in June, 119 stray dogs in July, 127 stray dogs in August, 153 stray dogs in September, and 152 stray dogs in October.
A Corporation official said, 'Sterilization of stray dogs that are harmful to the public is being carried out in Coimbatore Corporation. Sterilization of dogs is carried out through private voluntary organizations. The corporation pays the appropriate fee for it.'
