In the grievance meeting held in the city with LPG cylinder distributors and oil company officials, a request to inspect salaries for cylinder distributors was made.

Coimbatore: A grievance meeting was held on Friday at the city Collectorate. The LPG distributors and Oil Company Consumer Organization attended the meeting that was led by the District Revenue Officer.

On behalf of the Consumer Voice, it was alleged that the employees distributing cylinders to consumers' houses have made it a routine to demand up to ₹.50additional to the cost of the cylinder. Consumers who deny paying additional costs are delivered the cylinder comparatively late.

Investigations state that most oil distributors in Coimbatore only pay ₹.3,000 to the suppliers while the oil company pays over 9,000 odd rupees, which is the major cause for the suppliers to demand extra cash from the consumers. The oil companies were directed to inspect the list of suppliers demanding additional cash.

Various other complaints such as the suppliers do not carry their identity card and cylinder weight-size machine, no proper response nor action taken in case of a complaint registered regarding a gas leakage.Special camps to make a change of address and name for the cylinder for the 3 oil companies have been requested.

The district revenue officer in response has stated a joint inspection with the Labour welfare will be conducted with regard to the salary paid and declare that the identity card as mandatory. He also directed the officials of the oil company concerned to take action.

The meeting was attended by District Supply Officer Sivakumari, Civil Supplies Officer Palaniswami, Maithili of Indian Oil, Coimbatore Consumer Voice Organisation Secretary Logu, Executives of Kasturbai Women's Organisation, and Rajendran, President, Cooking Gas Agricultural Association.
