A right-wing functionary who made hate comments during a protest in the city in a manner so as to create dispute and public nuisance, arrested.
Coimbatore: The city police have arrested a rightwing functionary who made hate speech during a protest.
An Akhil Bharat Hindu Maha Sabha functionary was arrested for making hate speech during a protest in the city. A protest was organized on behalf of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha on the 23rd of this month, condemning the demolition of temples in Bangladesh.The protest was held at the South Taluk Office which is under the jurisdiction of the Race Course police station. Premkumar, (32), Youth Wing President, Kongu region, and 13 others gathered at the location without prior information or permission.
The agitators failed to adhere to Covid norms and continued with the demonstration seeking action against those who attacked people from the Hindu community in Bangladesh and demolished Hindu temples there. Premkumar alias Boxer Prem also made ill comments that would instigate enmity between two groups (Hindus and Muslims).
The Race Course Police C2 division registered cases under sections promoting enmity between different groups, statements conducing to public mischief, and arrested Premkumar on Thursday. He was later lodged in prison.
