An 80-year-old tribal man who went into the deep forest for collecting mushrooms was attacked by a lone elephant and was trampled to death. His body will be recovered tomorrow.
Coimbatore: An 80-year old tribal man was trampled to death this morning by a lone elephant in Thondamuthur in Coimbatore.
Four people of Attukkal Adivasi Tribe near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore were involved in collecting mushrooms from the deep forest every day as there were incessant rains.
Velliangiri, (80) belonging to the Attukkal Adivasi tribe went into the forest as usual early this morning to collect mushrooms. To his surprise, Velliangiri was chased by a lone elephant that was hiding behind the bushes. He was trapped and was trampled to death. His companions informed the forest department.
However, there was a delay in recovering the body due to incessant rains and movement of elephants, stated the forest department. Also, due to lack of light and continuous rain in the Attukkal forest, the process of recovering Velliangiri’s body will be done tomorrow morning, stated the locals.
