Based on the information received by the food safety officers, a raid was conducted at Murugampalayam on Wednesday in which, 1,500 kg of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice was seized.
Tirupur: Food safety officers have confiscated 1,500 kg of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice that was hoarded and sold in Tirupur.
The food safety officers received a mysterious tip-off stating Public Distribution System (PDS) rice is hoarded and sold in Murugampalyam area in Tirupur. A subsequent search operation was conducted last night by a team of Food Safety Officer Civil Supplies Crime Investigation Department and Sub- Inspector Radhakrishnan, Flying Squad Special Revenue Inspector Karthik Kumar, Tirupur South Special Revenue Inspector Raza, and Tirupur South Special Tahsildar Flying Squad Tahsildar Sundaram.

In the search operation, the officers found ration rice stored at a flour grinding shop in Murugampalayam near the school for the mute. Karthick, (35) who runs the shop fled the place. The team of food safety officials raided his house in the same area and found 15 bags of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice amounting to 1,500 kg stocked. The food safety officials have registered a case against Karthik and are looking for him.
