Coimbatore: Boys drowned while playing in a pond at Mudalipalayam near Sulur, Coimbatore. There is a 20 acre pond located on the outskirts of town.
In the pond, rainwater has accumulated to a height of about 6 feet as a result of rains that lashed the city. Against the backdrop of this, the student trio of Satish Kumar (14), Bhupathi (14) son of Arusamy from Pattatharasiyamman Kovil Street and Sabarivasan (12) son of Suresh from Anpalagan West Street in the same town went to play and bath in the water body in the morning and drowned.
The three are students of class 6, 7 and 8 at the Arasur Government School. The trio took off their clothes on the shore and took a bath in the water. None of the boys knew to swim. Unfortunately, the three appear to be trapped in the mud at the time.
As the boys went to the pool to bathe at 10 in the morning did not return home at 5 in the evening, their parents and relatives went to the water body to look for them.
The boys were not found on the shore but their clothes and slippers were spotted. The three boys were lying dead on top of each other when the family went down to the water body with the help of local youths looking for them.
Following this, their parents informed the Sulur police station. Police led by Sulur Police Inspector Madhaiyyan went to the location on information and recovered the bodies of the boys and sent them to Kongai Government Hospital for autopsy.
It has come to light that Sabarisan's father Suresh cannot speak and his mother cannot hear. They moved from Dharmapuri district to Mudalipalayam in Coimbatore district and work as labourers.
Bhupathi lost his mother when he was a child. Arusamy, who works as a cleaner Muthukkundan panchayat, cried as he had raised Bhupathi since he was a three - day - old child and remained unmarried to take care of him.
