Officials including Tirupur South Tahsildar Rajkumar, South Surveyor Sahayam, Nallur Revenue Analyst Padmapriya helped locals recover the 14 1/4 cents land.
Tirupur: En route from Tirupur, Southern Circle, Nallur to Muthanampalayam, Vaikkolmedu, a cart track that had been at a place west of the main road, opposite a private wedding hall for the past 25 years has been slowly encroached upon by a builder.
He has reportedly occupied the entire track using a barbed wire fence with a door to connect it to his farm.
Ponmuthu Nagar was created on this land and in 5,6,7,8 streets, the southern part has over 40 families residing. Prior to these families taking residence, the cart track was 14 1/4 cents wide, 13 1/2 feet wide from north to south and 600 feet long from east to west. Subramanian, son of S S Nachimuthu who lives nearby has been occupying the space illegally. Senthilkumar, Velusamy's son from the area had last year petitioned the Tahsildhar and revenue officials to restore the route. Accordingly, the Tahsildhar had visited and inspected along with the Revenue Department for recovering the track in the area.
After confirmation of the route, the authorities gave Subramanian time to clear the area occupied by the wire fence. But the landowner thereafter brought a tractor to plough the land. Following this, the enraged public demanded that the Tahsildar should order recovery of the occupied area. Over 100 members of the public gathered at the spot on Wednesday evening to protest against the illegal occupancy of the cart track and demanded authorities to recover the road track from the individual.

Police including Nallur police Sub-Inspector, Vijayakumar were on security duty at the time of recovery. Authorities then reclaimed the occupied space and laid the stone for public use.
