Coimbatore: At a meeting of the National Coir Board held in Pollachi, the Coir Board Chairman, Kuppu Ramu stated that Tamil Nadu was the lead producer of coir products.

A National Coir Board meeting was held at the Pollachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and attended by coir producers, entrepreneurs and the Coir Board officials in Pollachi and surrounding areas.
The Coir Board Chairman, Kuppu Ramu addressed the gathering and briefed the media. He stated that the Centre was giving more importance to Small and Medium Enterprises. "In the year 2020-21, exports of Coir Products to foreign countries were done at Rs.3,780 crore and domestic trade at Rs.12,000 crore under Atmanirbhar Bharat. For 2025, a target of Rs. 10,000 crore exports of coir value-added products and Rs. 25,000 crores domestic trade has been set, through which 2 lakh people will benefit with employment opportunities.

Entrepreneurs are studying on production and export of value-added products using coir for domestic use and for foreign countries. The Central Government plans to construct roads with 7 percent Geotextiles Coir across the nation and the Government of Tamil Nadu is taking action on how to implement road construction with Geo Textiles coir."
