The thieves took away 5 sovereigns of the yellow metal, cash from women who travelled on the bus as there were huge crowds with the festive season round the corner.
Coimbatore: Three women were robbed of their possessions in a crowded bus by anonymous thieves in Coimbatore.
Shanathamani, (67) wife of Durairaj is from P.N.Palayam Rangammal Temple Street. Anonymous persons snatched Shanthamani’s gold chain while she was travelling on a bus to visit a private hospital in Pazhaiyur for treatment. The thieves took the three- sovereign gold chain taking advantage of the crowd in the bus.
The Police are searching for the thieves after Shanthamani has filed a complaint at the Race Course Police Station.
Similarly, in another incident, Subhashini, (55), wife of Chokkalingam belongs to Kavundampalayam. She was heading to R.S.Puram by bus. The bus was jampacked and taking advantage of this opportunity, somebody snatched her handbag near Saibaba colony. The bag had ₹.12,000 cash. Subhashini registered a complaint at the Saibaba colony police station.
In another theft incident, Kalaivani, (56) wife of Palaniswami of Ondiputhur was snatched off her two sovereign gold chain while she was travelling on a packed government bus from Vellalur to Singanallur last evening.
She lodged a complaint with the Singanallur police. Police have registered a case and are investigating. With the festival of lights round the corner, chain snatching incidents have spiked in the city and women fear stepping out of the homes. Public has demanded a stringent vigil to curb such incidents in future.
