TN and Kerala transgender people’s art exhibit in University of South Florida; financial assistance requested for

Entrepreneur Kalki Subramaniam requested the Tamil Nadu Government to assist financially and also set up an art gallery to up-skill the members of the transgender community.



Coimbatore: Entrepreneurfrom the transgender community, Kalki Subramaniam has requested the Government of Tamil Nadu to provide financial assistance and set up an art gallery that can host painting exhibition of members of the third gender.

A request was also made to financially support artists from the community whose paintings are shortlisted for art show at the University of South Florida, USA.

Paintings of members of the transgender community from Tamil Nadu have been shortlisted for the art exhibit at the University of South Florida (USF). Entrepreneur, Kalki Subramaniam placed a request to the Government of the state requesting for financial assistance for the people of the third gender. A request to assist in setting up an art gallery has also been made.



Transgender activist and entrepreneur Kalki Subramaniam met the press at the Coimbatore Press Club. The Sagothari Foundation Coordinator stated that the people from the community are reluctant to provide space for the third gender community for setting up art gallery.

The University of South Florida is organizing an Art Exhibit from 17th of November, 2021 to 1st April 2022. The Exhibit named ‘Visibility and Remembrance’ will honour the transgender people by exclusively exhibiting their art. Works of 7 women from the transgender community from Tamil Nadu and 1 transgender man from Kerala are shortlisted for the exhibit.



These paintings will be exhibited at the University and on a virtual exhibit. She requested the centre to provide financial assistance and support as the pictures are to be sent to the university in a week’s time. She stated that she was also confident that the Tamil Nadu government would also provide financial assistance. Artworks of transgender people from 45 countries would be exhibited at the University of South Florida, USA.

Further, assistance to set up an art gallery in Pollachi to up-skill members of the transgender community is made. She demanded support to encourage both trans women and men to bring out their talents. Kalki Subramaniam also appealed for steps to be taken to provide training for making cosmetics out of a coconut.



Since 2017, various programs are being conducted to bring out the natural, latent talents of transgender people. She added that they are supporting both transgender men and women. Kalki Subramaniam expressed her happiness with the USF’s art exhibit for recognizing the talents of the transgender community.
