Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner inspects treatment provided under the 'Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam' programme

The commissioner inspected the Vadavalli Urban Primary Health Center in Coimbatore and inspected the treatment modalities and the provision of subsidy to expecting mothers.


Coimbatore:Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara, visited the urban primary health center in the west zone of Coimbatore and inspected the treatment provided to the patients through the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam programme.

The inspection was carried out at Vadavalli Urban Primary Health Center under Ward No. 17, West Zone, Coimbatore Corporation. He inspected expecting mothers receiving treatment at primary health centers, vaccinations given to expecting mothers, the details of which are recorded and maintained in the Maternal Health Care Card and uploaded on the computer. The Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner also conducted a study on the provision of allowances to expecting mothers under the Muthulakshmi maternity scheme and treatment offered by the Siddha Medical Unit.



As part of the inspection, the mothers who returned home after the maternity treatment were contacted over the phone to check if she (the mother) is currently well after the child birth. He also inspected if the children have been vaccinated and also inquired if the financial assistance of Rs 18,000 is credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy scheme. Later, he visited places including the drug storage room, the inpatient room, and the epidemiology unit.

He said doctors and nurses need to constantly monitor if the maternity funding provided by the Dr. Muthulakshmi Maternity Assistance Scheme is reaching the beneficiaries. He insisted that the financial assistance provided by the Government of Tamil Nadu to beneficiaries should reach the eligible beneficiaries routinely.



Following this, he visited the people receiving treatment through Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam by the Government of Tamil Nadu on Karuppasamy Mudaliar Road and inquired about the methods of administering therapeutic tablets to those receiving treatment through the medical scheme. Later, he inspected the activities of the Bommanampalayam power plant under West Zone Ward No. 17.



Thereafter, the Corporation Commissioner instructed the engineers to prepare a project report for the maintenance of the pond at Ajjanur and North Road and take immediate action to get the approval of the Government of Tamil Nadu. During this study, he was accompanied by Corporation Officer Dr. Satish Kumar, West Zone Assistant Commissioner Sivasubramaniam, Assistant Chief Engineer Hemalatha, Regional Health Officer Shanmuganathan and Corporation officials.
