Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Police are on the lookout for the culprits involved in a Rs.10 crore jewellery burglary case in the city.
Srinivasan (52) is from the Lakshmi Nagar area near GN Mills in Coimbatore. On the night of October 22, unidentified assailants broke into the back door of his house and looted a total of Rs.10 crore worth of jewellery, including 25 sovereign gold jewellery, a diamond necklace, two diamond-encrusted chains and two diamond-encrusted bracelets.
On receiving information, the Coimbatore Freight DIG, Muthusamy along with the Superintendent of Police, S Selvanagarathinam and a police team rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation. The Thudiyalur police have registered a case and are investigating. A special task force comprising Assistant Superintendents, 4 inspectors, 10 Sub-Inspectors and other police officials has been set up to nab the suspects involved in the burglary. Records of old criminals especially those having been arrested for similar thefts and surveillance camera footage are being collected for the investigation.
"Work is in progress to collect footage recorded by surveillance cameras to investigate the robbery. Previously-booked convicts were arrested based on suspicion of breaking and entering homes. Details of those recently released from prison in such theft cases are being collected and information is being gathered about their whereabouts on the day of the incident. Workers involved in the construction of nearby buildings are also being investigated," revealed a police official.
