The Chennai MET Department announced that the North East Monsoon has begun in South and various districts except Coimbatore have been receiving rainfall and fishermen are warned not to venture into the sea.
Coimbatore: The Chennai Meteorological Department today announced that the North East Monsoon has begun in South India.
In the statement, it is conveyed "Northeast monsoon started in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Thunderstorms might occur at a few places in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Pudukottai, Tirupur, and Karur districts today.”
“Thunderstorms may occur at a few places in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Namakkal, Karur, and Salem districts on Tuesday. The atmospheric overlay cycle may develop on the 26th in the central part of the South Bengal Sea. It will move westwards and the depression will strengthen in the next 48 hours. There might be thunderstorms at a few places in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari districts on 27th, added the statement.
“On the 28th and 29th the Delta districts, a few places in Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore districts, and Pondicherry and Karaikal areas might receive thunderstorms.”
“As far as Chennai is concerned, the weather will be cloudy for the next 48 hours. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur in a few parts of the city. On the 27th and 28th, cyclonic winds may blow at 40 to 50 km/h and intermittently at 60 kmph in the central parts of the West Bengal Sea.
Fishermen have been advised not to visit these areas.” the statement ended.
