Workers manufacturing grind stones go on a sit-in protest at Tiruppur district collector's office

More than 500 workers came to the Tiruppur district collector's office to petition the district administration and the state court to get permission to operate the quarries in a safe manner, thereby protecting our livelihoods. They sieged the district collectorate office by sitting at the entrance

Tirupur: More than two thousand workers in and around Uthukuli in Tirupur district are engaged in the production of stone from the quarries thereby producing grind stones and pestles.

For the past five years, the Supreme Court has ruled that polluting quarries should be closed. But in the quarries of Uthukuli and its environs, grinding stones have been produced since the stones were cut by pouring water on the rocks to prevent pollution.

More than 500 workers came to the district collector's office to petition the district administration and the state court to get permission to operate the quarries in a safe manner, thereby protecting our livelihoods.

They sieged the district collectorate office by sitting at the entrance because police did not allow the crowd. Following this, the police allowed the workers to file a petition with the district collector's office. After receiving the petition, the District Collector promised to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
