Power loom workers petition Tirupur district collector with their turbans for a pay raise

The working hours of powerloom workers are between 10 and 14 hours. It has been seven and a half years since the power loom worker signed a wage increase agreement. So far no wage increase has been offered.

Tirupur: In Tirupur district, power loom workers are living in Tirupur Palladam, Kannampalayam, Avinashi, Tekkaloor, Mangalam, Velampalayam, Pudupalayam and Perumanallur areas.

The working hours of power loom workers are between 10 and 14 hours and the workers are not paid according to their physical labor. They do not have full access to any social security. It has been seven and a half years since the power loom worker signed a wage increase agreement. So far no wage increase has been offered.

All essential commodities have their prices skyrocketed. Thus the education of the families of the workers incurs an additional cost for medical and food supplies. Even during the Coronavirus curfew, people were living with no relief, losing their jobs, losing their income, borrowing at interest and not being able to repay.

So they demanded to call the textile manufacturers and power loom owners and petitioned the Tirupur District Collector's Office with the turban to intervene and to take action to get the wage hike.
