A Nilgiris-based girl who is studying in Coimbatore was tricked by her ‘online’ boyfriend with promises of marriage and raped during their meeting in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: A 17-year-old college student was raped by her ‘online’ boyfriend in the pretext of marriage. The Police have arrested the man under POCSO.
Muhammad Wafik, (24) of Dharapuram, Tirupur was arrested under POCSO for allegedly assaulting a 17-year-old college student sexually. The first-year student, who is studying in a college based in Coimbatore, developed a friendship with Muhammad Wafik on Instagram.
The couple fell in love and exchanged numbers. Little did the girl know that she was being drawn into a trap by the boy when the two decided to meet at a place in Mettupalayam called Kallar.Muhammad raped her under the pretext of marriage.
The girl tried to contact Muhammad after the incident however, he failed to respond. The girl lodged a complaint at the All Women Police station in Thudiyalur. Inspector Annam filed a case against Mohammed Wafik under the POCSO Act and arrested him. He was later produced before the court and is imprisoned.
