The Singanallur police arrested a habitual serial chain snatcher during vehicle check in Coimbatore and lodged him in Udumalpet sub-jail
Coimbatore: The rural police arrested a habitual chain snatcher during a vehicle check here in the city and he is lodged in prison.
An anonymous person tried to snatch a chain from a woman on the evening of the 13th who was heading home from the grocery store in New Vasantham Nagar, Saravanampatti. CCTV footage of the man arriving on a motorcycle and trying to snatch the chain was discovered. The city police probed the incident to nab him.
Meanwhile, the Singanallur Police stopped a man on Saturday during a vehicle check. The man fell off his vehicle in an attempt to flee from the police. Injured, he was admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital by the police and the doctors diagnosed him with a broken leg.
Investigations revealed that the man is involved in a series of chain snatching incidents in various places in the state including; Coimbatore, Saravanampatti, Ganapathi, Singanallur, Peelamedu, Kuniyamuthur, Madurai, Podanur, and other areas. Further investigations revealed that the accused, identified as Ravi alias Ravichandran of Chikkandar Chavadi, Madurai would immediately exchange the chains in a pawn shop for money and use it for his pleasure.
According to records, Ravichandran is involved and charged in over 50 chain snatching cases. Every time he ran out of money, Ravi would once again snatch chains from people and he kept changing his vehicle’s registration number in order to avoid being traced for the crimes. The police have confiscated a two-wheeler, various number plates, accessories like screwdrivers, cutting equipment among others.
