The forest department led by Gudalur Forest Officer Ganesan patrolled the villages where the Vinayagan elephant was coming with the Kumki elephants. Two Kumki elephants have been detained at the exit area of the forest.
The Nilgiris: Two Kumki elephants have been summoned to chase away wild elephants in Madurai panchayat near Gudalur.
In the villages of Gudalur taluka, Madurai panchayat in the Nilgiris district, wild elephants have entered the town at night and demolished houses. The forest department caught a wild elephant named Vinayagan which was roaming in Coimbatore and left it in the Mudumalai forest area. The elephant roams the Gudalur-Mudumalai border villages every day.
The elephant recently damaged Leela's house in the runaway area. Moreover, it destroyed agricultural crops. Vasu, a resident of Kozhikandi trampled and damaged paddy fields in his field at around midnight yesterday. Following this, the forest department chased away the elephant with the help of the public. As a result, the people there and the farmers suffered from not being able to sleep peacefully throughout the night. The forest department announced that a protest would be held if appropriate action is not taken to prevent it from entering the town.
Following this, 2 Kumki elephants named Shankar and Krishna have been invited to come to Gudalur from the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
