Authorities make sure that water is supplied for 80 days, while the farmers are demanding water from the dam is supplied for 135 days instead to make water fully available for irrigation purposes. More than a hundred farmers protested and chanted slogans condemning the negligence of the authorities in not paying heed to the demands of the farmers, who had besieged the Vettaikaranpudur Public Works Office near Anaimalai.
The farmers share that they have asked for supply of water for 135 days from the Aliyar dam, but the authorities have reduced it to 80 days. Farmers who asked for water supply are very worried. They said that the government should show mercy to the tearful farmers. Similarly, the roads leading to the paddy and coconuts harvested at various places are in a very bad condition. They have on multiple occasions, appealed to the authorities to repair these roads and have been reluctant to take any action.
A petition is submitted to the concerned officials including the Minister of Public Works Duraimurugan and the District Collector in this regard. The protest therefore called on the government to take action to meet the demands of the farmers.
