It was mentioned in the petition that Bharat Nagar, MGR Nagar, and some other places in the Coimbatore Podanur area are predominantly occupied by Hindus. Due to the absence of a temple in these areas, the public chose a place that was not used by the public and the Muthu Mariamman Temple was built 25 years ago with the approval of the then Kurichi City Chairman Nagaraj.
In the petition it was also stated that the temple was not privately owned and that the temple was managed by publicly elected officials.
