Coimbatore: Sanitary workers protests staging various demands in Pollachi including making contract workers permanent. Pollachi Municipality and rural areas should be made permanent on the basis of contract cleaners. A protest was held at Pollachi Thiruvalluvar Stadium on behalf of the Sanitary Workers Union demanding various things.
More than a hundred cleaners chanted slogans emphasizing the demands. Sanitary workers who have been working on a contract basis for many years should be made permanent. They protested against exploiting the labour of the sanitary workers by reducing the wages and the contractors taking a hefty amount from wages in violation of order by the district administration. They said this has affected the livelihoods of the sanitary workers. The protest therefore demanded that the sanitary workers be paid the full amount as declared.
