A request has been made with the Coimbatore Collector and municipal corporation with regard to this exemption, stated the president of COTMA.
Coimbatore: COTMA has demanded that micro-enterprises that employee five persons to be complete exempted from industrial tax and labor tax levied by the Corporation.
Sivakumar, the president of Coimbatore Tiruppur District Micro Industries and Cottage Entrepreneurs Association (COTMA), said, 'Small entrepreneurs are suffering due to the pandemic, the rising raw material prices, and shortages of work. The Coimbatore Corporation has directed us to pay industrial tax and labor tax. The tax has to be paid in bulk or in instalments since the year of inception of the company, which has had a severe impact on the micro-entrepreneurs.'
The COTMA president thus requested to exempt those companies with 1 employee to be fully exempted from both the taxes. This issue was discussed with the District Collector and the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation.
The association President added that there are occasional complaints about micro-enterprises operating in a few residential areas. As soon as this complaint is received, a request is subsequently made to prevent shutting down and sealing them. If the authorities receive a complaint regarding such enterprises, authorities shall take action after conducting inspections.
