Cases filed against former DMK member who is Kovai Thangam’s son-in-law for promising a Coimbatore-based woman of marriage and cheating her of money

Ex-DMK MLA and Kovai Thangam’s son-in-law who cheated a Coimbatore based woman of money and false promises of marriage arrested and is out on bail. He abused her of death threats.


Coimbatore: Kovai Thangam’s son-in-law, and former DMK MLA, Arun Prakash was arrested for cheating a Coimbatore-based woman by making false promises of marriage. The victim, in her complaint, stated that she was abused and threatened with murder.

Sindhuja of Kalappati is an entrepreneur and she filed a case at the DGP’s office a few months back stating she was cheated of money by Arun Prakash, former DMK functionary’s son-in-law. In her complaint, she stated that Arun Prakash made promises of marriage and extorted 7 crores from her. She stated that he abused her. She alleged that Kovai Thangam threatened of killing her.

Cases were filed under three sections on three people including Arun Prakash at the Coimbatore East All Woman Police station. Kovai Thangam informed the press that he does not know the woman and alleged that the Tamil Maanila Congress Party instigated the woman for spreading malign messages.

A continuous investigation was carried out and, it was revealed that Arun Prakash (41), son-in-law of Kovai Thangam from Saibaba colony,defrauded Sindhuja's father Senguttuvan of Rs 1.5 crore. The crime branch arrested Arun Prakash on Tuesday under Section 420 of the IPC. Arun Prakash was earlier booked at Coimbatore East All Women Police Station on a complaint filed by Sindhuja for assaulting her. He was released on conditional bail and is reporting at the police station every day.
