Orange Alert issued for 10 districts including Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur and Salem: by Chennai Meteorological Department

Extreme levels of rainfall expected over many parts of the country due to low pressure over Sri Lanka and the adjoining Southwestern Bay of Bengal.


Coimbatore: The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for 10 districts including Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Namakkal and Salem in Tamil Nadu, on the 21st for six districts and on the 22nd, an Orange Alert is issued for four districts. The stated districts will receive heavy rains.

Rainfall over many parts of the country is a result of low pressure over Sri Lanka and the adjoining South-Western Bay of Bengal. Pudukottai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Kallakurichi, Salem, Madurai, Trichy, Perambalur, Ariyalur, coastal districts and Delta districts will receive heavy showers tomorrow. Sivagangai, Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Karur and Trichy districts will receive heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning. For Salem, Namakkal, Kallakurichi, a warning is issued.

The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Karaikal districts will receive heavy rains tomorrow and the next day. On the 22nd Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Kallakurichi districts will receive heavy rainfall. Ariyalur, Perambalur, Trichy, Karur, Kadalur, Villupuram, Kanyakumari, Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts will receive heavy rainfall. Mild showers are predicted for Chennai.
