Coimbatore: A 15-hour search of the home of former state health minister Vijayabaskar's father-in-law Sundaram in Coimbatore brought to light a large number of documents, according to a press release issued by anti-corruption officials.
During the raid that was exercised yesterday, there was a commotion caused by the AIADMK loyalists and members who were arguing under the influence of alcohol with reporters who were at ground zero, reporting about the developments.
Anti-corruption police raided Vijayabaskar's father-in-law Sundaram's house on the Ramanathapuram-Nanjundapuram road in Coimbatore at 6:30 am. The exercise lasted for more than 15 hours. A team of eight people, including two inspectors, led by Corruption Eradication Department ADSP Divya, were involved in the search. The raid started at 6.30 am and ended at 9.40 pm.
AIADMK loyalists and supporters in an inebriated condition who were present at the location got into an argument with journalists demanding that the media persons product their respective identity cards. This disrupted the peace in the area. To make sure that law and order situation is under control, the police sent the superintendent out of the area.
Furthermore, the jewellery confiscated from Vijayabaskar's father-in-law’s house, was evaluated by a jewellery appraiser in the presence of revenue officials. The inspection was carried out on all the premises of the house and his assets. Anti-corruption police seized various documents from the house during the raid. Similarly, a bribery incident was probed at a private company in the Peelamedu here in which he is a partner. From the premises of the corporate house, reportedly important documents were confiscated and are in the possession of the Anti-Corruption Department police.
In addition, anti-corruption officials said in a press release that up to 50 kg of gold, up to 5 kg of silver, Rs 23 lakh in cash and documents of 136 vehicles and 19 hard disks were seized during searches conducted at 50 places across Tamil Nadu, including the homes and offices owned by former minister Vijayabaskar.
Vijayabaskar, Member of the Pudukottai District, Viralimalai Legislative Assembly and former Minister of Health and Public Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, served as a Public Servant from 01.04.2016 to 31.03.2021. According to Pudukottai Anti-Corruption and Surveillance Division Crime the former minister has investments of Rs. 27,22,56,736. A case has been registered against C. Vijayabaskar and his wife Ramya on October 17, under Section 13 (2) r / w 13 (1) (b), 12 of the amended Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018 and is being investigated.
Following this, on October 18, homes and properties of C. Vijayabaskar’s close relatives, friends and business partners were raided. A total of 50 locations, including educational institutions run by the trust, which is managed by his family members. (Pudukkottai-32, Trichy-4, Madurai-1, Coimbatore-2, Kanchipuram-1, Chengalpattu-2 and Chennai-8). During the search, Rs 23,85,700 cash, 4870 grams (4.87 kg) of gold jewellery, registration certificates of 136 heavy vehicles and property related documents, 19 hard disks and important documents related to the case were seized.
