The body of a 55-year-old woman washed away in the stream on Saturday while trying to cross over is recovered after two days of intense search.
Coimbatore: The corpse of a 55-year-old woman who was washed away in the floods on Saturday in Thondamuthur is recovered after a two-day search operation.
The stream in Othi Malai Road near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore district that passes through Athirapally to Chengannur pond was flooded due to heavy rains on Saturday. Vijaya, (55), along with three others attempted to cross the stream on Saturday. They were on their way back home after work. Vijaya lost her balance, fell in the stream and was washed away in the floods.
Fire department officials were informed by the people who accompanied her. A search operation was conducted till 7.30 on Saturday evening was halted due to bad lights and incessant rain. The fire department continued to search on Sunday. The team searched as far as up to 20 acres and were unable to find the corpse.
