The Coimbatore Fruits Commission agents association stated that the current Mundy, situated in a prime location causes vehicle traffic jam and congestion on the road.
Coimbatore: A petition was submitted to the District Collector Dr. G. S. Sameeran requesting to relocate the fruit commission Mundy. The Collector assured that immediate action will be initiated on the petition.
The Coimbatore Fruits Commission Agents Association requested to relocate the Fruit Commission Mundy in the city that is functioning for the past 50 years in Karuppagowder, Pavizham, Big Bazar Street, Muthu Vinayagar Kovil Street.
The Mundy which is currently located in a prime location causes traffic congestion as residences, schools, jewellery shops are situated in the locality. Hence, the association requested to relocate the Mundy to a different area. A source from the association said, “Heavy vehicles have to pass through this road as the Fruit Commission is situated on one of the main roads of Coimbatore which results traffic jams. A petition was submitted to the Chief Minister, and he has also promised action will be initiated to relocate the Mundy to a different location”
It was suggested that setting up Mundy’s in Pullukadu or on the Sungam Bypass Road, would result in easier traffic management. The Coimbatore Corporations earns an income of Rs.30,000 per month from the Fruit Commission Mundy. The District Collector assured that action will be initiated after consultation with the Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation.
