Police confiscated 25 kg of cannabis from three men near Podanur railway station and Saibaba Colony. Police on Sunday arrested Jayaveeran (53), of Usilampatti, for his involvement in selling the banned substance. About 1.5 kg of cannabis is seized from him.
Coimbatore: The banned cannabis continues to be sold in Coimbatore, targeting college students and minors. The police are taking various initiatives to prevent its sale.
Police led by Podanur Assistant Inspector Murugesan were on patrol under the Eachanari Railway Bridge on Sunday. The patrol team noticed three men standing suspiciously in the vicinity. When the trio saw the police, they attempted to flee the scene.The police however prevented them from escaping and interrogated the three men.
It is confirmed that Mayan (51) from Usilampatti, Muruganantham (49) from Theni Andipatti Kadamalaikundu area and Anthony (62) from Ernakulam in Kerala were involved in smuggling cannabis from districts including Theni and selling it to college students in Coimbatore. Furthermore, the team of police officials confiscated 25 kg of cannabis which the men had reportedly stored for sale. Police arrested all three.
