Youth in an inebriated state damages statue of Hindu God at temple, remanded in police custody for his act

Ranganathan, a labourer in an inebriated state was breaking the Lord's statue, was caught red-handed. He was later remanded in custody by the Singanallur police.


Coimbatore: Mariamman Temple is located on Devendran Road near Singanallur, Coimbatore. Muthukumar is the priest of this temple.

Raghunathan, a 23-year-old labourer from the same area, was found drunk at the temple yesterday. He broke the Ellaisamy idol in the temple with an ax. On noticing this, the priest tried to stop the youth.

But the young man attacked the priest and threatened to kill him. Following this, the priest raised an alarm. Neighbours rushed on hearing the cries for help.

Ranganathan, was caught red-handed breaking the statue. He was later remanded in custody by the Singanallur police.
