As many as seven wild elephants entered the residential area of the Varattupaarai Estate near Valparai and broke the windows and doors of the school nutrition center last night. The public demands that the forest department takes action to prevent elephants from entering the residential area.
Coimbatore: Wild elephant movement is on the rise in the estates surrounding Valparai in Coimbatore district. When elephants migrate from one location to another they have to pass through the residential areas.
In one such incident, when a gang of seven wild elephants were moving from one place to another, en-route a residential area, the gang of tuskers reportedly damaged a school’s midday meal center. Reports of gangs of elephants breaking into ration shops, houses, grocery stores and eating and damaging items stored inside have also surfaced.
