The Meteorological department forecasted heavy and very heavy rains in multiple cities as the North- East Monsoon intensified.

The city had been receiving intermittent rains for the past two weeks. Sudden heavy down pours this afternoon, after dark clouds engulfed at around 1 pm,disrupted traffic on the roads and impacted the routine of the public.

Due to the atmospheric overlay circulation, the Met Department in Chennai had issued an alert stating that cities in the state, in the Western Ghats region, could receive heavy rainfall. The major roads in the city witnessed traffic snarls.Coimbatore and its suburban areas received heavy winds and thunderstorms on Saturday.
Gandhipuram, Collectorate, Railway Station, Race Couse, Peelamedu, Avinashi Road, Shivananda Colony, North Coimbatore, R.S. Puram, Singanallur, Thudiyalur, Thondamuttur, and other areas received heavy downpours without interruption.
Vehicles on the road were forced to ride and drive with the headlights of the vehicles on, while most people were drenched in rain. Gandhipuram, Shivanandha Colony, and Uppilipalayam bridges witnessed traffic jams. Waterlogged in the paths below these bridges caused additional discomfort to road users.
