The PSG Hospitals, jointly with the Alert Foundation have come up to provide training for volunteers for providing emergency first aid for the public.
Coimbatore: An MoU was signed between PSG Hospitals and Alert Foundation. The memorandum was signed to provide training for people to provide first aid and treatment during an emergency situation to save the lives. The MoU was signed on 16th October, World Restart a Heart Day. A Golden Army was formed during the programme, that will act as the emergency lifesavers for the public
The Alert NGO, along with PSG Hospitals will train people including police personnel, I.T. professionals, shopkeepers, auto, and cab drivers, house helps. They will be taught to save the lives of people during an emergency situation. PSG Hospital will act as an external assessor and co-certifier of training assessments in the project. Together, the two teams will carry out joint curriculum research.
The Alert’s Head, V. M. Muralitharan stated, “We have been serving the public for the past 15 years and we are proud to work with PSG hospitals. We provide training to the public to help people during emergencies. The social activists of our organization have provided first aid in various emergencies and saved thousands of lives. As A.P.J. Abdul Kalam stated, one person in each family should be trained in emergency care. We are working towards achieving this goal.”
“Ever since our organization came into being, we have provided first aid for 6 lakh families, and have trained them on how to act without wasting time, during an emergency. This initiative with the PSG hospitals will give us the necessary impetus to reach out to as many people as possible. Apart from hospitals, our Alert organization is also closely working with other departments that serve the society during emergencies, such as the ambulance, law and enforcement, government agencies and research institutions.” Muralitharan said.
L Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee, PSG & Sons Charities appreciating the efforts of Alert Organization, stated that “The Alert organization’s programmes are uniquely designed to meet the needs of the common man as the first person. We are seeing that their approach to first aid is socially and psychologically holistic. We want all students from our educational institutions to benefit from this scheme immediately and we would like to want our students to work with Alert through this MoU. We are ready to contribute in the manner we can to support the efforts by the Alert Organization to extend the first aid service in any part of the state.”
He also added that a proper first aid treatment in case of accidents, injuries, heart attack, or stroke can save their lives. Studies have shown that about 75% of deaths can be avoided if victims are given basic first aid treatments within an hour. Anybody who is properly and meticulously trained shall provide assistance in case of an emergency.
Prominent personalities from various industries were present on the occasion. They committed to spread awareness among their employees and their family members to support the initiative.
Alert Organization provides basic, advanced, and intensive training under its 'Personal Empowerment of Emergency Care' programme. Similarly, an ‘Alert Voice’ programme is formed that works through a mobile application. The details of first aid providers are listed. Anyone who needs emergency care can contact these numbers and get first aid. Alert's 'Golden Army' trains volunteers to provide medical assistance during crucial moments and this training is given to provide any necessary first aid in the first 60 minutes.
The Alert Foundation will provide training to the public in western districts of Tamil Nadu including Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, and Salem. The training will cover aspects like how to act and save lives in case of emergencies. Students of PSG Group’s educational institutions will also be trained in emergency medical management. The MoU was signed in the presence of the special guests including, Coimbatore District Collector, Dr. G.S. Sameeran, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Deepak M.Damor, and Advait Lakshmi Industries Managing Director Ravi Sam., Alert’s Head V.M. Muralitharan and L. Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee of PSG & Sons Charities, presided. Alert founder Kala Balasundaram and co-founder and managing trustee Rajesh Trivedi were present.
