The T23 wild cat, that mauled four people and over thirty cattle was captured alive on Friday after 21 days of hunt
Coimbatore: The man-eater T23 tiger that haunted the people in Masinagudi and Gudalur, is being taken to the Mysuru Zoological park, sources stated.
A 13-year-old T23 wild cat killed 4 people and over thirty cattle since last year. Sensing its presence in the forests in Masinagudi, on Thursday night the forest officials found the animal and darted it twice with tranquilizers, which the animal survived. The tiger was found hiding in the bushes 2 km from Masinagudi. The forest officials tranquilized the animal with a dart and captured it alive from Kootruparai, Mayar forest region on Friday.
The tiger will be taken to Mysuru Zoological Park after treatment. It is reported that the T23 tiger will be taken to a rescue center at Mysuru Zoo.The veterinarians stated that the T23 tiger's condition is stable.
The tigers in the reserves across Tamil Nadu are given numbers during surveys. A 13-year-old tiger in the forest area under Mudumalai Tiger Reserve was tagged T23. The T23 wild cat killed Gauri, a woman, in Masinagudi last year.
Later, the tiger moved from the area to Devan estate near Gudalur and killed Kunju Krishnan and Chandran in the last few months. It also killed more than 30 cattle in the area. The animal also hunted down a cowherd, Pasuvan in the Singara forest near Masinagudi a few weeks ago. The locals demanded to kill the animal on the spot.
Following this, a search operation was initiated with two Kumki elephants, Udhayan and Srinivasan, and two sniffer dogs, Adhavai and Rana. The tiger remained elusive and the chief wildlife conservator ordered that the tiger be hunted and captured.
Sangeetha Dogra of Noida and the People for Cattle in India (PFCI) filed a case against the hunt down and the Chief Justice Sanjeev Banerjee and Justice Adikesawal in the bench of the High Court issued orders to capture the man-eater by tranquilizing it. The animal was finally captured on 15th October after it was injected with three darts of anaesthesia.
