In a series of individual incidents several sovereigns of gold and silver were stolen by breaking into homes, pick-pocketing and a chain snatching incident was also reported in the city. Police in the respective jurisdictions have registered cases and are investigating.
Coimbatore: A series of incidents have occurred in the city where miscreants have gotten away with gold and silver by breaking into locked homes, pick-pocketing or by chain snatching. Cases are registered and the police is on the lookout for the miscreants.
Aruljothi (50), son of Mani is from Kurumbapalayam area next to Madukkarai in Coimbatore. The driver by profession, locked the house yesterday and left with his family to visit a temple in Coimbatore. They came back home last night and found that the front door of the house broken. The wardrobe was broken into and he realised that a three sovereign gold bracelet, a two sovereign gold chain, a-half sovereign earring and one sovereign ring was stolen. Following this, Aruljothi lodged a complaint at the Madukkarai police station. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
In another incident, Gowri Manohari (40) the wife of Shanmugasundaram of Ayyappan Kovil Road, Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore who works as a teacher in a private school in the city reportedly is a victim of pick pocketing. She took public transport to travel from Ramanathapuram to Ganapathy via Gandhipuram. While she was walking in the vicinity of the CMS School, that two sovereign gold chain, an ATM card a driving license kept in her purse was pick pocketed. Following this incident Gowri filed a complaint at the Saravanampatti police station. A team is investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, in another incident in Palayam Mariamman, miscreants have robbed silver and gold jewellery from a wardrobe in a home. Gowri (72) is the wife of Radhakrishnan from Mariamman Kovil Road, Palayam Mariamman, next to Sundarapuram, Coimbatore. The couple performed Varalakshmi Vrata Puja on August 20 last year and kept 30 pieces of gold jewellery locked in the wardrobe.
When Gowri opened the wardrobe the day before yesterday, she noticed that the 30 sovereigns gold jewellery missing. Gowri then lodged a complaint at the Kuniamuthur police station. Police have registered a case and are investigating how unidentified individuals broke the door of the house and robbed the gold and silver jewellery from the wardrobe.
Another incident where a home was broken into and gold robbed is reported. Varadarajan (64) is the son of Kannan from Amman Nagar area of Selvapuram, Coimbatore. He went to Ooty with his wife and youngest daughter two days ago. A woman named Shuba, who lives near his house, called him yesterday and informed him that the door of the house was broken. Following this, Varadarajan informed his eldest daughter who visited the home to check.
She noticed that the front door of the house was broken. Upon searching the home it had come to light that that jewellery including four sovereign bracelet, one-and-a-half sovereign mangalsutra, two sovereign chain rings and 500 grams of silver jewellery kept in the wardrobe is lost. Varadarajan lodged a complaint at the Selvapuram police station. Police rushed to the crime scene, lifted fingerprints and a search is on to nab the miscreants involved in the robbery.
An elderly woman became a victim of a chain snatching incident. Santhanam (50) is the wife of Vetrivel from Edayarpalayam in Kuniyamuthur, here. She was manning her grocery store last night and doing business as usual. Just then one of the two motor bike-borne men got off the bike and in the pre-text of enquiring about an address, relieved her of her seven sovereign gold chain. The miscreant got on to another motor bike which was waiting and fled from the scene of crime. The victim gave the chain snatchers a chase, but in vain.
Santhanam lodged a complaint at the Kuniamuthur police station. Police have registered a case and are looking for the unidentified person who snatched the chain.
