Tourists throng Valparai due to long weekend of holidays; spike in tourist vehicles has resulted in traffic congestion

Due to the pleasant climate in Valparai, a large number of tourists visited Valparai today. They enjoy bathing in the rivers at Koozhangal River, Vellamalai River and Mine Canal and Nallamudi, Sholayar Dam and Tiger Valley. A spike in tourist vehicles has caused traffic congestion at the Valparai Gandhi statue complex, the old bus station and the Stanmore junction.


Coimbatore: Valparai is a tourist destination located in the Coimbatore district. The region attracts a large number of tourists from various cities including Coimbatore, Trichy, Tirupur, Erode, Chennai and Madurai.

People from neighbouring states of Kerala, Karnataka and Pondicherry also visit the region.

Visitors were temporarily banned from visiting Valparai due to the corona virus infection. However, with a slump in cases and lockdown restrictions being relaxed in the state the placed is now open to tourists, who have to adhere to some restrictions while in Valparai.

The region is currently experiencing a very pleasant climate and the long weekend of holidays, has attracted a large number of tourists. According to reports Valparai had several visitors today who enjoyed bathing at Koozhangal River, Vellamalai River and Mine Canal and Nallamudi, Sholayar Dam and Tiger Valley. They also enjoyed taking photos with the family in the tea estate areas.

More than a hundred cottages in the Valparai are occupied by tourists, leaving the area overcrowded. With the room occupancy in places of accommodation full, those who did not get rooms reportedly took shelter with families in vehicles. Hotels and bakeries were also overcrowded. This has caused traffic congestion at the Valparai Gandhi statue complex, the old bus station and the Stanmore junction.
