Coimbatore: A farmer from Thondamuthur expressed his glee after the replanted coconut trees begin growth within a month.
Easwaran, a farmer from Onampalayam in Thondamuttur, decided to relocate and replant the coconut trees from one of his gardens to other agri land owned by him, as the trees were drying up without water in their original location.
Kanakaraj of Sultanpet, here, uprooted 90 coconut trees from their original location with the help of men and machines. The uprooted trees were transported to another nearby fertile land where they were replanted.
The farmer said that while planting a coconut tree it is essential to sow the nine grains (navadhanyam) which saves the trees from blackening caused due to the lack of water.
He said, “We have already done a similar exercise of replanting trees in various districts. The transplanted, trees takes up to six months to growth. However, the trees we planted recently have started flowering in just one month and I am very happy with the fruits of labour.”
