DMK dominates with 10 seats in Coimbatore in local by-polls

The local by-polls, were held on the 9th of October, for 13 posts including District Panchayat Ward Member, Village Panchayat President, Village Panchayat Ward Member


Coimbatore:The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has bagged 10 seats in the local by-polls conducted in Coimbatore. In the vote-counting exercise conducted so far, the results for Village Panchayat President and Ward Member are declared.

The rural local body elections were conducted in Coimbatore for village panchayats on the 9th of October and the vote counting was subsequently done. Elections were held for a total of 13 posts including, District Panchayat Ward Member, Village Panchayat President, and Village Panchayat Ward Member.

A total of 55,280 people cast votes in the by-election and the counting of votes for the posts of Village Panchayat President and Ward Member has been completed so far.

As many as 2,312 votes were cast for the post of President of Thenkumarapalayam Panchayat under Pollachi South Panchayat Union. DMK candidate Narayana Murthy won with 1,451 votes. AIADMK candidate Saraswathi lost with 834 votes.

In addition, a total of 6,555 votes were cast in the election for the post of Village Panchayat President held at the Anamalai Panchayat Union at Diwansapudur, in which the DMK candidate Kalaivani won with 4,372 votes. For the post of Village panchayat ward members, 10 seats were in the contest. A total of 591 votes were cast in Thekkampatti ward 15, out of which DMK candidate led with 379 votes.

Similarly, 411 votes were cast in Ward 10 of Velliyangadu, in which DMK candidate Murugammal won with 213 votes and 767 votes were cast in the 3rd Ward of Bellathi, in which AIADMK candidate Suresh won with 372 votes.

Kallipalayam 5th ward recorded 272 votes, in which the DMK candidate Manonmani bagged 155 votes. In the election conducted in Pogampatti's 6th ward, 376 votes were recorded, of which AIADMK candidate Sandhya won with 214 votes.

A total of 361 votes were cast in Ward 3 of Madhampatti, in which DMK candidate Sivaprakash won with 259 votes. Accordingly, in ward 9 of Kurudampalaym, 913 votes were cast in which DMK candidate Arulraj won with 387 votes.

As many as 288 votes were cast in the election for the post of Member of Ward, Muthur, Kinatukadavu. DMK candidate Mahendran won with 112 votes. Zamin Muthur recorded 422 votes in ward 2, in which the DMK candidate Senthil Kumar won the seat with 289 votes.

A total of 334 votes were cast in Ward 4 of Seerapalayam, in which DMK candidate Jayaprakash won with 168 votes. Subsequently, the votes cast for the District Panchayat Ward member in Annur are being counted. An official announcement of the results will be made soon.
